Why an English Mastiff?

By Tara

I think that it is important to explain why Christian and I want the breeds that we want. Since Christian is the one who has his heart set on an English Mastiff, I thought I would “interview” him on why he wants one so that I could write a blog post about it. I just asked him, “Why do you want an English Mastiff?” The following conversation took place:

    Christian: Because they’re cool.

(Okay. I’m going to have to try harder to get this guy to think about why he thinks Mastiffs are cool)

    Tara: What makes them cool?
    Christian: Uhh, their size.
    Tara: What about their size?
    Christian: It’s extreme.
Tara: Okay… What else makes them cool?
    Christian: Uhhhh…

(It’s like talking to a child)

Tara: If you can’t think of why you want one, then we are getting two Great Danes.
Christian: Nooo! I want a Mastiff!
Tara: We won’t get one if you can’t tell me why you want one!
Christian: I don’t know! You know I don’t like exploring my feelings.

So, that got me no where.

Christian has told me in the past why he loves English Mastiffs, so I’ll share what I remember:

  • They are very sweet and affectionate dogs
  • They are couch potatoes
  • They don’t require a lot of exercise
  • They are fun to cuddle and wrestle with
  • Their wrinkles are adorable
  • They are massive

Christian is a simple guy. He’s not going to write paragraphs upon paragraphs to describe his love for Mastiffs. He’s got a short and sweet list of things he loves about the breed, and that’s okay with me. I know that he’s not the type of guy to just say he wants something without truly wanting it. So I guess we are getting an English Mastiff

And for the record, I have looked into English Mastiffs myself; they are quite lovely.

P.S. His lack of thinking during that conversation maaay or may not have been because he was playing a video game while I was interviewing him.
